When we started Wyth, we had aspirations for being a place that other caregivers to turn to to be in conversation about the harder, often invisible parts of being responsible for someone else- be that your child, a parent you are now caring for, a sibling who may need extra help, or yourself if you’ve been through trauma.
One thing that stands out to us as caregivers is how lonely it can be, even when you are by definition caring for other people.
We’ve been on that journey. We are on that journey.
So, here, you’ll find our real stories, and others who are brave and called to share their stories too. On our blog and in our podcast, we’ll ask others to share their real challenges, reflections and where they are finding hope and community on the caregiving journey. We’ll ask what has helped them on their journey, and what they wish others knew about what they need. In so doing, we hope to spark compassion for caregiving and for caregivers, in whatever form that takes.
We’re not here for toxic positivity. Caregiving can be joyous and it can be challenging. We’re here for all of it. Here to listen and here to share. No one knows the path you’ve walked but you, and we acknowledge and respect each feeling caregivers bring to our space.
Respect is the foundation of community, and community is at the heart of all we do. We are here to affirm journeys of all kinds, and to uplift caregivers in their times of need- it’s the heart of our mission statement.
One thing that we’d like to acknowledge early is that we’re here for the hard stuff. But we also know that parents of children with special needs in particular have been shamed for having anything but joyous optimism about their children.
When people can’t acknowledge their whole experience, it leads to isolation and depression. We are here to shine a light on all experiences, and they need not always be positive here. We welcome the hard times along with the joy on the journey.
